Interviewing Mark Dodson owner and head chef of the Masons Arms was one of the first podcast I did and has become one of my most popular.
I remember it being quite a grey day and feeling a little worried about the interview because I wanted it to be good and not feel like I wasted Marks time but also as I used to work in kitchens and chefs can be scary people.
Fortunately, it turned out that Mark was a lovely chap and the interview went quite well. It was so relaxed that half way through his wife Sarah decided to join in. Before the interview, Mark showed me around the pub and the kitchen, which was surprisingly small considering the quality of the food served.
During the chat, we talked in depth about the importance of the provenance of food and how the restaurant does it’s best to source produce from the local area and Exmoor. This also lead on to where Mark and his family like to spend time in Noth Devon and of course that included where he recommends going to eat.
The Masons Arms is a Michelin star pub in North Devon located in the village of Knowstone on the edge of Exmoor. It is open for Lunch and Dinner on Tuesday to Saturday. For more details go to http://www.masonsarmsdevon.co.uk.
